Tim Brown Architecture is a full-service architecture and design firm based in Six Mile, South Carolina and active in the upstate, Western North Carolina and Chicago.

The design practice is driven first and foremost by a love of building; whether at small or very large scales, residential additions or commercial build-outs. TBA develops unique solutions to the challenges of each project whether services are comprehensive or limited in scope.

The practice is organized around three key pursuits: delivering highest quality professional services to clients, conducting hard and soft research in an effort to innovate across multiple fronts, and finally, sharing knowledge, experience, and insights with students.

Although small in size, TBA has developed a successful collaborative model which allows us to work on local, national and international projects.

Timothy Brown AIA NCARB

A native of Asheville North Carolina, Tim did his undergraduate studies at Clemson and his Masters of Architecture at the University of Illinois Chicago. He founded the Atelier FLIR design collaborative in 1991 and worked in Chicago, then in Tuscany and, finally, Paris. In 2003 he launched Tim Brown Architecture in Paris. His professional practice moved back to Chicago in 2005, expanded to North Carolina in 2011, and to South Carolina in 2017.

If professional practice is TBA's reason for being, and research is the backbone of the office’s work, then its heart is, without a doubt, teaching. TIM spent twenty-five years as a faculty member at IIT's College of Architecture where He directed IIT’s foreign study programs for over a decade while living in Montepulciano, Barcelona, London, Berlin, and Paris.  HE is NOW A FACULTY MEMBER at Clemson's School of Architecture. His teaching roles have ranged THROUGH EVERY YEAR LEVEL from first year design studio to masters thesis advising. other teaching has centered on upper-level courses in advanced technology, materials, and structures.

Tim is a Licensed Architect in Illinois, North Carolina and South Carolina.

ARCHITECTURE CALLS FOR A LOT OF COLLABORATION, THIS IS NOT A SOLO SPORT.

Many more people have made significant contributions to this body of work than space allows, but the people below have had outsized influences on the work at TBA. Thanks for the advice, counsel, time, and labor.
