The CHA continues to demolish high-rise housing in an attempt to rectify (with a wrecking ball) a situation long in the making. Immediately south of the IIT campus the Robert Taylor Homes are gone, along with Stateway Gardens. North of us the Harold Ickes Homes are now being razed. Cabrini Green has mostly disappeared and has been replaced with lots of market rate housing. It strikes me as odd that buildings that were in essentially decent condition are being destroyed. The notable exception is the project just north of IIT; Dearborn Homes have been renovated and prettied-up with absurd quoins and fake end gables. Otherwise the CHA's only forward-looking idea seems to be demolition. Photos were taken in late September.
